IT for Construction & Trades Companies

Phones and tablets that work on the jobsite, plans and photos the office can actually find, and new crew members set up on day one. Local IT support for contractors and trades across Central Oregon.

A local team based in Redmond. Same business day response. A real person answers texts during the business day.

The work happens in the field. The money happens in the office.

A contractor's IT problem is rarely the office alone. It's the gap between a foreman's phone in Prineville, a project manager's truck on Highway 97 and the bookkeeper's desk in town. Photos sit on someone's camera roll, the latest plan set is in an email thread, and time gets entered twice. Every gap costs hours and sometimes a change order you can't prove.

Evolution IT Services is a local team based in Redmond. We set up the devices, accounts, connectivity and file structure that let information move from the jobsite to the invoice without getting lost, and we keep it running so your people can build.

Field to office

Phones and tablets, managed

Company phones and tablets enrolled in mobile device management (Microsoft Intune), so apps, Wi-Fi and email arrive set up, and a lost or stolen device can be locked or wiped. Personal phones can get work apps without us controlling the whole phone.

Plans and photos in one place

One shared structure per job in SharePoint, Teams or your project management platform, with the current plan set clearly marked and photos uploaded from the field, not texted to whoever's around.

Rugged where it matters

Rugged tablets or cases for crews who work in dust, rain and cold mornings. Standard devices for the office. We help you choose what's worth paying for and keep a record of who has what.

Project management and accounting software

Most contractors run a mix: a construction platform such as Procore (common on commercial work) or Buildertrend (common with home builders and remodelers), accounting in QuickBooks or a construction accounting system such as Sage, plus estimating tools and a lot of spreadsheets. The software choice belongs to you. Our job is making it work:

  • Multi-factor sign-in, plus single sign-on where the platform supports it, so one stolen password doesn't open everything
  • Accounts created and removed as people join and leave, including the field apps
  • Integrations between the field platform and accounting checked, so time and costs aren't keyed in twice
  • Backups of the data that lives in your office, and exports of what lives in the cloud
  • A straight, independent opinion on the IT side when you're choosing or switching platforms

Jobsite connectivity

Central Oregon jobsites range from good 5G coverage in Bend to nothing at all past Powell Butte. We plan connectivity by site:

  • Cellular hotspots or cellular routers in the job trailer, with a carrier chosen for that area's coverage
  • Starlink where cellular is weak, set up for a trailer or site office
  • Offline mode turned on in your field apps, so work syncs when a signal comes back
  • A secured network in the trailer, not an open hotspot anyone parked nearby can join

Estimating workstations and the office

Estimators and project managers working with large plan sets need more than a basic laptop: plenty of memory, a good graphics card, two or three large monitors and a fast connection to shared files. Large-format printers and plotters need to just work on bid day. We spec, set up and maintain these machines, and keep the office on a standard setup so a failed computer is a quick swap rather than a lost day.

Protect bids, payroll and payments

Contractors are a favorite target for payment fraud: a fake invoice from a "supplier," changed bank details from a sub, or a payroll redirect request that looks like it came from an employee. We put the basics in place:

  • Multi-factor sign-in on every account, and phishing-resistant sign-in (passkeys, FIDO2 keys or Windows Hello for Business) for owners and the people who pay bills
  • Bid documents and financials restricted to the people who need them
  • A rule that any change to bank or payroll details is confirmed by phone, using a number you already had
  • Email protections and alerts for suspicious sign-ins and inbox rules
  • Independent backups of Microsoft 365 and accounting data, tested on a schedule

Seasonal crews, onboarded quickly

When the season ramps up, you may add several people in a week, and when it slows, they need to be shut off just as cleanly. Leftover accounts are a security hole and a license bill.

We built Helix, our own tool for Microsoft 365 onboarding and offboarding, for exactly this. A new hire gets their account, licenses, groups, email signature and the right access in one reviewed step. A departing employee is removed the same way, so nothing is forgotten. Pair it with phones enrolled in device management and a new crew member can be working from day one.

Common questions

Do we need mobile device management for a small crew?

If company data is on phones and tablets, yes. It's how you set devices up consistently and wipe company data when a phone is lost, broken or leaves with an employee. It scales down to a handful of devices just fine.

Can you help us choose between Procore, Buildertrend or something else?

We can give you an independent view of the IT side: sign-in, integrations with your accounting, data exports and what your crews' devices need. The workflow fit is your decision, and the vendors will demo their own features.

What do you recommend for jobsites with no cell signal?

Usually a Starlink kit for the trailer, with field apps set to work offline and sync later. Where coverage is just weak, a cellular router with an external antenna on the right carrier often does the job.

How fast can you set up a new hire?

With Helix, a new account with the right licenses, groups and access is a single reviewed step. Tell us who's starting and when, and we have them ready for their first day.

Do you come out to the office or the shop?

Yes. We're based in Redmond and work across Central Oregon. Most fixes happen remotely the same business day, and we come on site when something physical needs hands.
